Life saving percentage
Life saving percentage is the number of lives that HSHC impacts through its mission to eliminate the cruelty, abuse, neglect, and abandonment of domestic companion animals. Through its focus on this mission, many animal lives are positively impacted each year.
The lifesaving percentage is calculated by taking the total (I)take for dogs or cats and subtracting those animals that were humanely (E)uthanized (please refer to our Euthanasia standards under the Education tab on this website) or (D)ied while in the facility (i.e. parvo, distemper, age related issues, etc) . That will give a (L)ive rate which is what HSHC has (1) returned to owner, (2) adopted out, (3) placed in rescue or (4) is awaiting adoption. This (L)ive rate is then divided by the (I)ntake and multiplied by 100 to get the Lifesaving (P)ercentage.
I-(E+D)=L (Live Rate)
then (L/I) x 100 = P (Lifesaving Percentage)
HSHC, for the 2016-2017 Fiscal Year, has a Lifesaving Percentage for dogs currently at 88%.
I = 454 E = 43 D = 7
L = 454 - (43+7)
L = 404
P = (404/454) x 100
P = 88.99% or 89%
HSHC, for the 2016-2017 Fiscal Year, has a Lifesaving Percentage for cats currently at 55%.
I = 605 E = 92 D = 178
L = 605 - (92+178)
L = 335
P = (335/605) x 100
P = 55.37% or 55%
