About Us

Since 1965, the Humane Society of Henderson County (HSHC) has been a trusted advocate for animals in our community. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we are dedicated to giving homeless and vulnerable pets a second chance at life. Our shelter provides compassionate care, rehabilitation, and adoption services, while serving as a resource for pet owners throughout Henderson County.
Beyond shelter operations, HSHC partners with both the City and County to deliver Animal Control services. Our officers respond to reports of stray, lost, neglected, or abused animals and work closely with law enforcement to ensure justice in cases of cruelty. While Animal Control is municipally funded, the Humane Society relies entirely on donations and adoption fees to sustain its life-saving mission.
Our daily operations are led by an Executive Director and supported by a committed Board of Directors. The Board provides strategic guidance, ensures compliance with state and federal laws, and sets policies that advance our long-term vision.
In addition to rescue efforts, our volunteers and board members host adoption events and community outreach programs to connect animals with families and promote responsible pet ownership.
Together, with the support of our community, we are building a future where every animal is safe, valued, and loved
